I think my motor is a merc from 1992 but i'm not sure. Where is the serial number located on the engine? I need to get a manual because my engine up and quit this past weekend on the lake, had to get towed in. the engine still cranks but it sure as hell won't fire. the way it died i'm guessing electrical.

anyone have a manual on CD that they can email or copy for me? Thanks

I agree you need the manual, but doubt you'll find it free. There are one or two guys here that can post links to parts of manuals, but I sure don'y know how they do it.

I suggest you pursue buying a manual if you intend on keeping the boat. Or make it run so you can sell it.

Factory manuals are the bet.

There should be a small plate on the flywheel housing flage of the engine block. Just above the starter. It will have the serial number stamped into it.

Re: 1992 Merc 4.3LX/V6

Thanks fellas, found the serial number. Its 10801037 , how do i relate that back to the proper mfg date. I called my local dealer and the guy on the phone said he couldn't use a serial number to help me choose the right service manual. I think he's full of crap or just a new guy who doesn't know what he is doing. Anyone have the mfg date range for this serial number?

anyone who sees this post and has any idea what I should start checking plese speak up. the boat just up and died while i was out last weekend. the engine turns over just fine but won't fire. whats the first thing to check?

Assuming is a poor habit, like I could assume your engine is a 1992,or you could assume the guy was full of crap because the serial number you gave him made no sense (to him).

We can further assume I'm full of crap when I say 1992 Mercruiser engines start with a serial number begining with a "D" and not 108xxxxxxxxx..

Obviously assuming too much has left 'U' and 'ME'.out.

Maybe your 3rd post can lluminate what you really are saying

Re: 1992 Merc 4.3LX/V6

That 108xxxxxxxxxx number is definatly not a Mercruiser serial number. It may very well be an after market replacement engine and won't have a Merc SN anymore. But the service manual for an 83 to 93, 4.3LX, V6 is Mercruise manual #7. If you order it from Merc, it's PN 90-12410.
Of course, you need to find out what drive you have also if it's actually NOT a 92 vintage engine and drive. Mid 91 the Alpha I Gen II came out replacing the Alpha I.
Which do you have? ? ? ? ? ? ?
