Re: 1992 mercruiser 3.0 l 115 hp
Last time I rebuilt my Rochester carb, I think I had to get a carb kit that went on a 1967 Chevy 307 engine.
Mercury was ridiculously slow to upgrade anything on their engines--until competition forced them to. Yamaha outboard threw them on their ears when they hit the U.S. market around 1984--forcing big changes at Kiekhaufer.
It's hard to believe that the 3.0, 120 hp and 140 hp Mercruisers are Chevy II motors dating back to 1962. It's even harder to believe that we're still using those old iron monsters. You'd think that some modern 4 cylinder engine with fuel injection could come up with enough torque to be a marine engine without the weight of the 3.0. I guess manufacturing cost also comes into the equation.
