I am looking to buy a 1992 Skeeter SF175 with a same year Mercury 150 (XR4 <--I think). I am currently running a Ranger with a 115 Suzuki that has been giving me some troubles and I am ready to move on. I know the boat is older, but it and the motor are in excellent shape. My question is...are these motors known to be good and reliable? Any concerns with this year model? It is a really good deal, and I was wondering if I should be worried about a older motor like this giving me much problems...Thanks.

as with any new/old motor, check compression and
condition of L/U oil and get a water test of how
it performs.
good luck,
M.Y.

This is a very good motor, Relatively easy to do all the necessary maintenence and any repairs that may be needed....

But like mellow suggests, check the compression on all cylinder, lower unit oil for water, and idle and WOT rpms... Should be around 800 and 5500+ respectively....
Good luck.
