Re: 1992 Yamaha 55HP on 16 Foot Excel 16DX

Hi hwsiii,

I took the boat out yesterday, there was two adults and one child on the boat (about 420 lbs of people). We just drove to a location and back, I calculated my fuel consumption to be 1.3km per liter of fuel. Since my boat and motor is similar to yours I was wondering how much fuel your boat would go through so that I have something to compare it to.

Thanks,

Alan

Alan, you are getting right at 3 MPG out of your boat at this time and I get better than 5.5 MPG out of mine, that will give you an indication of the difference.

Thanks for the info. I spoke to the mechanic today to see if he has any other suggestions. He said the main jet could be wrong or the foam might be water logged making the boat very heavy.

I will need to see if there is a weigh station around here that will let me weigh my boat axle to see what it weighs. It isn't always covered when it rains so I guess it is possible that there is some water in the internal foam. I am not sure how long the foam normally lasts before it lets in water but would hope it remains impervious to water.
