Hey EZ, I don't want to steal one of your best lines ever, so please do the honors and complete the following:

"The family that fiberglasses together....."

Wow, a nice looking lady that can fiberglass... As we say in the south... "you done well" my friend.

Still awaiting the remainder of this...

(Jeopardy music)

The suspense is killing me!!!

Btw-Thanks for the kind words!

Well the wind is really sort of out of it now, as I doubt it will live up to the build-up. On some other thread somewhere, I remember someone posting a pic of them glassing with their wife or kid or something and EZ said: "The family the glasses together stays together..."

It was just one of this witty comments that hit my funny bone and stuck with me... (because I like it when people re-purpose old corny sayings for good humor). Since he has like 40,000 posts, he probably doesn't even remember saying it....

Carry on... enjoying the work. One of the few epoxy rebuilds I've seen. Although I am committed to the poly route, its good education to see a different way of doing it.

Ok, Moving along now....

Next, I cut notches out for a 4" PVC pipe where all of my cables/wires run. Now, on the original build, they cut huge notches for this pipe, then never sealed around it. This, paired with the fact that the fuel compartment did not have a pass through to the rear bilge, and as the boat sat and got rained on, the middle hatches would drip into the fuel tank compartment. Without the fuel tank compartment able to drain, it filled up until it could spill over to the middle starbord compartment, then to the one rear of that, then to the one rear of that. These compartments did have foam, but only about half full, so where there wasn't foam there was water. When I took out the fuel tank, it had a water line about 2" in the front and about 4" in the rear, so if it wasn't bolted in it probably would have been floating around in there. Anyways, to correct this I cut a pass through in the rear rib (arch shaped cut in Post #16), so the compartment could drain to the rear bilge, and I fully sealed around the PVC pipe as it passes through all supports.

Now, in these photos I haven't sealed around the pipe fully yet, just glued in.

ahh, I thought the rest would be "itches together"....or "sticks together" no pun intended...okay, maybe a little.:D

Hey thanks again for following my post. I think using epoxy is overkill for what I need, but it was so nice to work with, gives good working time, and I could do what I needed to do after work, cover it up and let it cure overnight, as I wasn't really in any kind of hurry. Plus the smell of the poly makes me nauseous after an hour or two. I did get my dose while repairing gelcoat though.

How's the Lancer coming along? I bet you are glad to be (most of the way) done grinding...but there's always more, plus sanding makes you itch just as bad....so don't put away the hydrocortisone cream yet..

Put to bed???

The bigger the better for the "Tiller" world!!!

Its a thought...but I'd have to hire a captain, as my arms would be so worn out from the trek to the fishing hole I wouldn't be able to cast. That Johnson 115 would be a bear to control on a tiller...I'll stick with my center console and no-feedback steering...

Hello GT! Thanks for following! This project did not go nearly as fast as I am posting it. It took a total of exactly 6 months from the first day I started unbolting and removing the console (3-18-11) and seat, to the day I splashed it (9-18-11)...it ins't completely done yet, as I still need my upholstery work done, a new onboard battery charger, and new fabric for my bimini.....but I'm 98%, and I can use it as is for now. Again, thanks for the kind words, and good luck with your project, as I'll be watching also. Remember, its well worth it to take your time and get it right!

Brother,
6 months is dang fast in my book...from what I have been reading in some of these threads, 1-2 years is common...
I do however hope to get mine done fairly quickly, funds allowing, but definitely the right way... I only want to do this once, on this boat anyhow:rolleyes:...and enjoy for many seasons...
Yeah, I could see myself doing another restore/remodel after this one:facepalm:...like others have stated, this stuff gets into your blood and quickly becomes an addiction...
Damn good thing I gave up all of my other addictions, well "cept'n fer chicks...Hehehe:D

Re: 1993 17' Center Console Complete Refurbish

Ok, at this point I am still waiting on more marine plywood, because my supplier was out. So, I used some scraps to make some fuel tank pads and mounting blocks, to space the difference between the compartment walls and the top ends of the fuel tank (mounting tabs). I epoxied these in, then started on the foam. I would fill one compartment, let it overflow, then cut it off even with the top. The cut pieces would then go into the bottom of the next compartment and filled around, and so on....the only problem is that I needed about 2 times as much foam as I thought, so back to the computer to order more..This is when I found U.S. Composites web site. I was able to get more foam for the same price as I was ordering it from the west coast, with cheaper shipping, and shorter wait to get it.:D

While waiting for foam, the marine grade plywood came in, so I cut the last rear stringer piece and epoxied it in. I did not take many photos between these steps, but heres what it looked like up to this point...(6-23-11)

Keep em' comin... this is like time-lapsed photography.

Normally, we have to watch these boats come together over several months, if not years. This feels like cheating...Instant gratification. Yesterday, we were grinding...today we got stringers and foam... If only it was this fast in the real world.

I think if it went this fast in real life I would quit my day job! It might even be profitable!

BTW-I just got my new 94 qt igloo marine for the cooler seat, and my upholstery supplies came in, so I should be getting my seat cushions redone within the next couple weeks :D All I have left is a new battery charger and replacement bimini top fabric, as I'll re-polish the frame poles and use them again.
