Can anyone tell me what type of fuel consumption is associated with this outboard on a 22 foot offshore boat. I plan to go offshore 10 to 15 miles one way. I heard they use up lots of fuel. Does anyone have experience with this using the boat under normal conditions? I am interested in buying this boat due to the type of boat with it.

I was told today that to replace this engine with a new 250 4 stroke Yamaha that it would cost 30.000 turn key. Does this seem excessive?

Re: 1993 225 Johnson

General rule of thumb - at wot if the motor makes 225 hp, it'll be using about 22.5 gallons per hour. If at a slower (cruising) rpm it's making, for instance, 180 hp then it'll be burning about 18 gallons an hour. If at a given rpm it makes 150 hp then it'll be about 15 gallons an hour. And so on.......

As for the cost to repower, it's impossible to say without knowing what's involved. Obviously if the boat has a tower then you have to re-rig both stations. Most likely you'll be changing most if not all the gauges too. Just depends on what you want. The harness has to be changed obviously.
