What a beautiful day on the Tn river today. Unfortunately on the return leg about 2 miles form the slip, my fuel pump went out. At least that's what I thought until the mechanic looked at and said the water pump seal had blown out ( explained the oil mess) and the shaft must have broken that drives the fuel pump. I had confirmed the carb was dry and the boat acted like it ran out of gas.
This is a 93 Sundancer 290 with 381 hours on a 454ci. Just looking for some feedback from someone that has been here before.

Thanks,

Nick

Yea, exactly what happens that oil isn't changed.

Your fuel pump is driven off an eccentric in the pump housing. That oil is Merc Hi-Perf. Holds 2ozs. Needs to be changed, atleast once in a while. Perfect time is when the water pump is replaced!

Thanks for your reply. Who'd of thought you need to change dope in the friggin water pump??? Should have been a big label stuck somewhere!!! Damn I hate destroying stuff due to neglect alone... and this baby is about $550 to make it even more painful.
