Ok, I've got this motor running as I feel it should with the exception for one thing. When I got it there was no thermostat in it at all. I have ordered all the missing pieces and have them sitting at home. All I had to start with was #14 in the pic below, thermostat housing, and also #44, spring. I obviously also have the cover and a new gasket. So, I have ordered all of the other parts, and they sit at home as I said. I have the factory service manual, but just don't understand how it is all supposed to go together. Can someone please give me a diagram or a picture, heck, anything, to help me out? Only issue I think I have is I can't get the therm housing out, so is there a certain way I need to pull on it or can I get this back together without removing it?
Diagram is below:

Thermostat cover comes off, Housing is part of the head.

If the cover is stuck tap it with a rubber mallet.

Everything installs as in diagram. Start at 14 work to 22.

I've got it open, just can't figure out how to assemble it properly and install it. The t-stat has this little nipple that just falls out, and it worries me that it would just fall out in the motor also. Am I wrong?

Once everything is in place the spring/washer will hold the nipple. 14-22 in order. Tilt the motor to help keep things in place as you install.

Ok, thanks for the help. I was sitting there trying to assemble it and it just kept falling out, so I was worried that if I put it in the motor like that it would disappear into one of the cooling passages. Tilting it makes a lot of sense.
Thanks again.

Re: 1993 60hp T-Stat question

Ok, I figured out I was indeed missing a part, part # 14. I thought it was what I had stuck in the hole in the housing, but apparently not. I ordered it, and a new gasket, both of which came in today. I am still lost, I don't understand how this thing is going to go in there, fit, work, or anything for that matter. Here are some pics of what's in the hole now, and then one of all the parts I have for this. I do have EVERY part now for this, just don't fully understand how it assembles and goes into this hole in the block.

The hole has rubber around the inside, but I can't see this thermo housing fitting IN the hole, so what's up? I've been going on what year the original owner told me it was as well as what others on here have told me, the engine is missing the ID tag and the powerhead has been rebuilt in the past as well, so it could have been swapped as far as I know. Is this just a simple matter of differing years?
Here is a pic of the parts I have on hand:

If it is a matter of wrong year, how in the world am I supposed to figure out what part I need for this since I have no way of knowing what year the block would be if that is the case?

Re: 1993 60hp T-Stat question

Does anyone know how this is supposed to go into the t-stat housing on the block? I can assemble it all day, but it doesn't seem right to just stick it in there, I don't think the black plastic piece (#14 in 1st post) is going to go inside the hole in my block. Is it supposed to just sit there on top of that or what?

Anyone? Even if you can just tell me if the #14 item, t-stat housing, is supposed to fit in the rubber grommet in the hole in the block. I just don't see it just sitting on top of it, which is how it will be now if I assemble it.

Re: 1993 60hp T-Stat question

Again. Hoping to get this last thing done so I can try to sell this, need the money, but need to know what the heck to do with this t-stat before I try to sell it.
Can seriously no one offer help on how it's supposed to go in from my question way up this thread?
