Posted a while back on some water intrusion, hydrolocked engine... Cleared all the water out and got the engine running, but... I noticed water coming in over the exhaust, dribbling down the transom plate... I just pulled the engine today and took off the transom plate and transom mount... The bottom of the transom is rotten on the right. I stuck a screwdriver in it and it went in pretty easy. It is a 1993 Chris Craft Concept 217 BR with a little over 250 hours. It runs great (or did.. I have worked on it for about 5 years restoring it back to where it should be... The previous owner had let it sit in the water which caused some corrosion problems and probably started the rot... I love this boat. What are my options? Can the bad area be cut out and repaired? Most of the area is firm and looks good, but the bottom right and a little up the side of the transom mount hole. I have drilled holes to mount trim tabs and other accesories and the wood was fine that came out... Is there a good book or a link to someone who has already done this? I have searched the board and haven't found anytyhing yet...

Well, your in for a project. The general recommendation is to replace the ENTIRE transom. Basically because its that question of how far do you have to cut before you get to 'good wood'? How do you ensure that your repair is structurally bonded to the old transom?

Yes, transom's and I/O transoms are rebuilt all of the time. If you're looking for step by steps you might do some searching on shareaproject and see who has done a I/O rebuild.

Good Luck, post questions as they come up.
