I have a 1993 Crownline 196 BR and have a soft spot in the bow area of the floor. I don't know anything about replacing floor's except for what I have read here. I spoke to a guy yesterday that replaces floors and he quoted me $950.00 to replace the bow portion of the floor. Does this sound like a reasonable price or should I try to do it myself. I am located in Dayton Ohio and the guy i went to is the only person I was able to find in the area. I am always up for the DIY jobs, however i don't want to get knee deep into the project and not be able to finish it. I need the boat to operational by Memorial Day weekend. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Chris

Re: 1993 Crownline 196 BR Floor ?

Welcome to iboats you found the right place for help
what usually happens is you go to replace the floor, and find the rot is more extensive, like bad stringers and such, but that is not always the case. unfortunatly, you wont know how much damage there is until you take up the floor. I say go for it, 950.00 will buy you ALOT of materials, and its not really that difficult, if you are good with working with wood, and have the tools (electric power tools) it is very labor intensive though, if you luck out and its just in the bow, ive heard that if its a bowrider, you have to remove the top cap on alot of models, but I don't know I dont have a bow rider, I was able to completly gut my hull and didnt have to remove the cap. How about some pics? you will get alot better advice with pics because we can see what you are up against. look on this board and do a search for rotted floors, you will see what we are doing. The hardest part IMHO is removing the old rotted wood, and the fact that materials tend to be expensive but we are boat owners we are used to that, if you do get into it yourself, take lots of pics, and ask questions, there are lots of folks here that are willing to give advice, for that I am thankfull :) Good luck peace

Re: 1993 Crownline 196 BR Floor ?

Jimmy,

Thanks for replying, I will try and get some pictures tomorrow. I took some of the panels apart tonight and saw that the floor of the bow is glass and under that is wood. So I would guess that the glass part which is molded into the driver and passenger consoles is the cap that you were talking about. I read in a previous post that some caps come off by removing the rub rail and some come apart by cutting the glass. I hope to god I would not have to cut the glass. Again thanks and I will get some pictures posted tomorrow, hopefully. Chris
