1993 Evinrude 9.9 wiring question

I haven't had much luck using Search, so here's the question. I bought a 1993 Evinrude 9.9 for use on a sailboat. It runs. It has no control arm and thus no stop switch. I'd like to wire up a remote stop switch. The wiring diagram indicates the stop switch is normally open and functions by connecting a B/Y wire from the Power Pack to ground. Can someone with experience confirm or correct my understanding of how the stop switch functions? Thanks.

it grounds out the volts the stator puts to the power pack, which puts it to the coils when the scr is fired from the triggers

In simple terms, does that mean my understanding is correct? The switch closes to ground the B/Y wire to stop the engine?

The simple word is Yes. Be aware that there is fairly high voltage on that wire, so try to keep the connections clean and dry (Liquid Lectric Tape)
