Bought the boat this spring and noticed steering arm broke recently (completely rusted).
Question is, without tearing the whole engine down, am I safe to use it with the broken steering bracket (underneath power head)? What could happen if run as is? The engine is old and always something, so not looking to sink anymore money into it.

If I understand the term Steering Arm, it is one piece including the swivel shaft and upper motor mounts. I am not sure how you could use the motor without it, as I cannot think of a way to repair it.

If you need to replace it, it is a pretty big job as you need to remove powerhead, gearcase and motor mounts.

Used swivel shafts are available.

I'm not qualified for that level of repair - I will have to poke around on how its still connected at this point.

Ayuh,..... How are you gonna run it, if ya can't steer it,..??

If you use the busted steerin' arm(Tiller), 'n it breaks off,.....
The motor will swing to a full lock turn, probably throwin' people outa the boat,.....

Haha, I hear you. It still turns but I think its only rust holding it together. I hate this damn engine. Concerns noted and will have to replace (which would likely break more rusted bolts...) or come up with some sort of rig/winch/strap to secure to the arm. Either way, not good.
