I am currently looking at buying a 1993 Ebbtide Fish and Ski. It has a 1993 Johnson Fast Strike on it. From what I have read on other sites it seems to be a fairly reliable motor. Other then it is a gas hog I cannot find much negative about it.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. They are asking 3900 if that matters at all. I have attached a couple pictures of the boat to try and help out. The boat it self looks mint. This will be my first larger boat purchase and I dotn want to make a huge mistake as I have had all Mercs in the past.

Thank you very much in advance.

Mike

These carb versions of the 60 degree powerheads were all very reliable. Great runners in a small package. They did run fairly high compression-as high as 115 new. I'd check compression to make sure all 6 within 10% of each other before purchase.

And they are not gas hogs at all for a carb'd motor.

Mike, I would think that boat will "cook" with that powerplant. I have a '98 Johnny 150HPV6 on my 21 footer, and performance is excellent.

I presume the boat is rated for 150HP?

Just go thru everything as usual, compression, spark test, lower unit oil and look for blistered paint on cylinder heads indicating an overheat.

Then I'd go thru the boat, stringers, transom etc.

Slick looking package, great engine if it checks out.
I have a 150 on a heavy 20' center console, lots of power.
Bah to fuel consumption, release the hounds!

It all checks out. The boat is at a dealership and they are going to warranty the motor for 6 months in writing.

I agree, If I wanted good gas mileage Id keep the alumacraft With a 40hp I got now. LOL I also got him talked down to 3500 even... With tax title and license included. I will pick it up in the morning.

Thanks a bunch guys.
