Assume you've checked to make sure your kill circuit or mercury tilt switch are not the problem?

It should have a mercury switch. Is shows in in the schematic, but I'm not certain where it mounts. Maybe under the electrical box. Typically its mounted at about 45°.... just smaller than an AA battery. Should have one wire connection on the end.

Your stator is a 9 amp. Just disconnect the blk/yellow wire at the switch box to make sure there is not a short in the wiring harness or mercury switch

went back thu it . checked fire with timing light instead of meter ...had fire with black wires off . tracked it down to kill circuit in remote start loom . just left the one wire off switch that goes to it ... can still kill it at switch on tiller handle...thanks to all for the help ... does anyone have an oppinionon the red - red/white stator reading of 95 ohms instead of 56-76 ohms ... is this something to keep an eye on ??? how about the conversion to a red stator is that something that a person ought to look into ??is this paticular motor fairly dependable ... grew up in evenrude country ... first mercury i ever owned . thanks for help and any more info you can share :)

Great reputation. A bit hard on gas, but very smooth and dependable

This is great info. I am experancing the same problem with the same motor. I took it out today for the first time in three years (New gas). It ran great for approximotly 20 minites when my motor just shuttered and shut down. Thanks for the tips, I'll know more tomorrow!

Thanks Again,
