I have a 1993 Mariner 135. A new trim motor was installed and the Mechanic did not fill the hydraulic fluid. What is the correct way to fill this unit? The lower "fill" screw that is accessed through a hole on the right motor mount bracket is too deep to get the cone on the Hydraulic oil tube to seal into. Is there a special tool for doing this??? What is the proper way to fill the unit to make sure you get the least amount of air as you fill. Do you remove the upper screw/knob and fill from the bottom until it runs out of the top liks a lower unit??? We filled it as best we could but the motor will not stay up. It falls slowly so there is air in the system of not enough fluid.....HELP?!
Thanks!

Re: 1993 Mariner 135 tilt/trim question

i dont know how you might fill yours as you describe it but.... I use a oil can from a parts store with a long spout on it. Fill the pump to the top and seal it off. (motor in the up position) On the trim cylinders themselves there should be little allen screws to "bleed the lines" open both sides and let the motor down. Close the valves and fill the pump full again. Then run the trim and see if it goes up and down as it should. If you get some hesitation bleed the lines again till ya get all the air out of the lines. By the way that mechanic should have done all this for you. I wouldnt take anything back to him again if he just half asses his work!

Re: 1993 Mariner 135 tilt/trim question

Thanks for the reply Tadd. I'm still at a loss though because with the location of the upper knob/cap on the port cylinder and the lower screw on the starboard cyclinder, I have no place to "pour" my fluid in. I have to inject it do to the vertical openings in the cylinders. This has been a real pain in the #$%@. I have yet to find someone who really knows this motor and how to fill it. Thanks alot for all the help though!

my mercury has a fill tube on the port side. Did you check the port side for a fill spout? It would be a hole in the motor bracket with a screw type top..
