from one problem to the next.... the tilt unit will not work.
both lift lower switches activate the solenoids, I say solenoids plural as both solenoids activate at the same time in either the up or down mode.. If I disconnect one solenoid from the drive motor, then only the solenoid being activated will activate. The tilt still does not work.
Can I conclude that there is an internal problem in the lift motor??? Can these motors be repaired or is replacement the best way to go??

I am assuming you mean the trim relays and not solenoids? If you remove one relay, or have one bad relay, the trim won't work at all. As far as I know, each relay should only "click" when the corresponding direction is pressed on the trim switch. I could be wrong on that, but that has always been my experience. Obvious, but a must ask...you have a full, good battery, correct?

Before assuming the motor is no good, test it. Take a battery and connect a positive wire to one of the wires coming directly from the trim motor, and the other to a ground. The motor will either move, or it won't. It doesn't matter which wire you test first, as one would make it trim up and the other down. This will just confirm if the trim motor works or not. If the motor does nothing when you apply direct power to it, then it needs to be repaired or replaced. If it makes noise, but doesn't move the motor, it needs repair. If it moves, then you have a different issue.

If the motor does move with direct power to it, take a voltage meter and start testing the power at various stops along the trim system. Is there power at solenoid? Yes or no? If yes, what about the feed to each relay? Then the output of each relay (when pressing the trim switch up or down)? Then trace the wires all the way back to the trim motor, checking for voltage along the way. I just had a similar issue on my 2000 Merc 200 2-stroke. Relays would just click. Tested motor and it worked. Wiring looked okay, but after testing the voltage along the wires, I found a dead spot and sure enough, one of the wires had a break in it under the coating, just enough to stop the power from getting to the trim motor. Cut and re-spliced that wire and it works like new. Hope this helps. Good luck!
