So just recently bought this project boat and am not getting any fuel. The pump isn’t kicking on checked all the wiring and that’s good replaced the relay. Should this kick on when I turn the key to prime ? Or will it only turn on while cranking thanks.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Only when cranking on the starter, or when the motor is running,.....

This is a mechanical fuel pump. It only pumps when the engine is turning. Take the fuel line off the carb and put a little bucket under it. Crank it a bit. If no fuel comes out then take off the pump. These older pumps are easy to rebuild. Take it apart and check the little black diaphragms inside from and cracks. Ethanol in our gas ruins pumps and carbs these days. And it’s only gunna get worse.

Just put in fresh gas last week, and it’s an electrical fuel pump, and a fuel filter

Need more info. Carbureted or EFI? EFI should turn on with key to pressurize the lines. Carbureted usually is connected to oil pressure switch likely on port side just above oil filter or rear of block on top with oil pressure sender. The switch closes when oil pressure is high enough. Check for corrosion and verify switch is closing when cranking and oil pressure comes up.

Ayuh,..... Just because you put gas in the tank, don't mean the gas is available to the fuel pump,.....
There's the dip-tube in the tank, the anti-siphon valve at the elbow on top of the dip-tube, 'n the gas line,....
Any of which could be plugged,.....
There also can't be any vacuum leaks 'tween the pump, 'n tank,....
