Hi all,

First post here. I'm having an issue with overheating, Not truly sure if it is the gauge just reading incorrectly or if it is actually getting hot, i will tell the things i have done to try and solve/diagnose the problem and maybe someone can give me some more insight, this is my first i/o so bear with me.

1. Installed new impeller and housing.
2. Installed new thermostat.
3. Installed new bellows
4. Pulled Risers and inspected/ flushed they seem to have good flow so i replaced the gaskets.

Basically what happens is it runs fine at idle and runs fine for about 20 minutes at 3/4 throttle (40MPH ish) then when i try to bring it to a lower speed it wants to heat up i have seen the gauge get as high as 225. when the gauge is at 225 i have no loss of power, no steam and no smells or weird noises. I used an IR temp gun when it was at the high temp on the gauge and the risers were around 130 ish and the hottest temp i could get was at the thermostat housing which was 172. The thermostat i installed was a 160 degree. I did the ground test on the Temp sender and it does peg the needle to the right. What else can i check or do? Thank you in advance.

With the temp gun showing everything is within range, your not overheating. I would suspect the sender because the gauge did peg when grounded. Remove the sender and place leads from an ohm meter to the center post and body. Place in pan of water on the stove and heat it up. Watch the resistance value as it heats up between 140 and 180 degrees.

Temp Ohms Reading
140° F (60° C) 121-147
194° F (90° C) 47-55
212° F (100° C) 36-41
