1994 115 HP Mercury 2/4 (Runs on 2 Cly below 1800 RPM). This motor runs great but it will just stop like someone turned the key off if you idle for more than 5 minutes. Won't re-start unless you open the throttle all the way.
Does the same thing if you shut it off to anchor, won't start.
History....
Low hours. Carbs rebuilt in January and ran fine after they were rebuilt, same compression on all Cly.Just had it re-checked and ever thing checked out perfect and it started every time in the tank.
What do you think is wrong?

Take a look at the fuel pump.If the diaphrams are leaking they will cause these symptoms as will a faulty primer and possibly that accelerator pump.Or you might just be running a little rich. The weather has certainly changed a great deal since January, when the carbs were last adjusted. The tank is not the real world.

Thanks for the reply. The Carbs were rebuilt in Florida and the boat was used in Florida so the temp did not change that much. I will check the fuel pump. What should the pressure and volume be on the fuel pump?

A bad switchbox caused my 91 135 to ack like that in the beginning, it eventually went out completely. It would run fine then die out, take a high throttle to crank back up. Are you loosing the cylinders due to spark? I take a piece of wire with an aligator clip on one end and the other end stripped down a bit to check for spark presence out of the plug wire when the condition arises. Ground one end and take the end thats stripped and move close to the plug wire, it wont bit you but I keep my hand about 10 inches from the tip, try not to touch the motor anywhere while doing this if you can help it.
