1994 115hp won't turn over, sparks at battery

got a 1994 115hp Merc. the power trim unit does not work. i tried pushing the up/down button several times times, the motor powers up but the ram is siezed. I removed the 3 wire trim unit completely. when i reconnected the motor to the battery, there were sparks at the battery. tried turning it over but theres nothing. not even a click from the soleniod. I checked the fuse and it is still good. why is there a spark at the battery? do i need a new soleniod? starter? or did i fry the whole system?

i bought the motor used. it had been sitting unused for awhile. i got it running saturday on a stand and hose, but the power trim would not move. all the electronics look good, no burn marks or exposed wirers

help...changed the soleniod...still a little spark.

it was the fuse!!! put a new one in and she turned right over.
