i have a 94 15hp evinrude that ive had about a year. when i first got it i had no problems with it, ran good and everything. had it sitting up for several months and now theres no water coming out the tell-tale. i dropped the l/u and stuck a wire up the copper water tubing. i sprayed pressured water up the copper tubing and water appeared to come out the tell-tale. my question is, after i put the lower unit back on, and cranked it, how come no water appears to come out???:confused:the imperller looks to be in good shape and so does everything else in the waterpump area. does my motor have a thermostat somewheres that i dont know about?? if so, where is it and could it be sticking??please can anybody help me out? thanks!

The tell tale is just an indicator, the motor can be pumping water and not have a stream from the tell tale for the reason TD stated, mine gets plugged up all the time.

Check that first if it is clear then you know the problem is elswhere.

For our info are running this on muffs or is it in the water?

you should change the impeller regardless, they wear out suddenly ,and you had the gearcase down already, those little impellers usually delaminate from the hub,it might look good but hub could be spinning in the rubber, seen many do it,and what may appear to look good mite not be

it is sitting inside of a trashcan full of water. yea i already checked to make sure the the hub wasnt spinning inside the impeller, and its not. everything looks good. already checked the hose and stuck a wire up that to make certain it was clean. when i put everything back together the first time, everything was working fine. water was coming out the tell-tale, sounded good, but after i left it running for a little bit to let it warm up from sitting up for so long, it stopped pumping. ive taken it apart several other times to check the rubber piece that connects tk the water tubing. i had to make sure it was aligned right and not causing a clog. checked the impeller numerous times and everything looks good. since then, i havent figured out what is causing it not to pump. ive looked on numerous sites to see if it could be the thermostat, but all sites i find do not indicate one for my model for that year. does it have one i dont know about?? thanks for the replys all and keep them coming. i have a 1994 15hp evinrude incase yall have any info

I would follow Mike advice, do not cheap out here. Rebuild the waterpump, period, especially since it has been sitting. Ensure that the water intake area and water line are free of debris, and as you know, pay attention to the impeller housing grommet on reinstallation.

IF in fact the water pump is functioning as it should, you may need to check the connection of the water line to the powerhead. There is a rubber bushing there that may be restricting your water flow. Unfortunately, the powerhead needs to be removed to service this.

The t stat is not your issue, as it is located after the tell tale.

The following links contain some great reading for you. Good luck.

y would the powerhead need to be removed to get the waterpump working?? ive already stated that i have checked the rubber piece connecting to the copper water tubing. everthing is aligned. ive been to those sites before and they really dont help me out on what i need to know. please keep them coming.

Just a thought here but it could cause a problem. Make sure you have adequate amount of water in your trash can. If the level isn't high enough it will not pump well. The water out the pee hole doesn't run through the thermostat so that isn't your problem. Your thermostat is located at the top of the head. Three bolts will remove the access cover.

Re: 1994 15hp evinrude waterpump problem???

hightrim is referring to the grommet on top of the water tube under the powerhead, they often collapse ,stranguling the opening ,but ,im thinking as long as you are able to shoot water up the tube from the hose it might not be the case,do you have a flush kit,if not get one and try it,what can happen, especially with the smaller engines is the water gets all lubed up from fuel and exhust ,that can cause a problem,as said be sure it good and high if thats the way you go,and clean,if you can shoot water up the passage from the hose,it comes out without restriction, there is one answer, something aint right down below,I want to bet on impeller is worn, may look ok,but if the blades are bent or very flexable, they arent up to par

Is the air bleed in the waterpump clear?

I think bits of gunge get caught up inside and block the hole. Poking wire in can cure it until another or the same bit of dirt returns. My motor is the same, but water is coming out, just not as fast as it should. But, it is coming out of the leg so is pumping etc.
