1994 XL PTO ID# 0G000919. Took the boat out yesterday. Due to being almost deaf, I did not notice that my trim switch on the throttle was stuck in the up position. I ran about 3 miles and came down to no wake speed. Tried to throttle back up and no matter how much throttle I gave to the engine it would not increase in speed. I did not notice rpm reading. Noticed the stuck trim switch and got it back in the off position. Tried the trim switch and it would not tilt. Waited a little while and trim started working and motor would respond normally. This is what I think went on.
1. Tilt motor overheated and overtemp switch kicked in like it should.
2. After reseting the switch, tilt motor cooled and resumed working.
3. Motor resumed working normally.
In reading my manual it says that the Tilt trim will not go past 20 degrees lift if the engine is above 2000 RPM.
My question is - if you are at 20 degrees up position, is there also a rpm limiting control on the engine to keep it around 2000 rpm (seems about how fast I was running) even while giving it lots of throttle? If not I have another problem.
Thanks
ED
