I'm having trouble with getting this thing to start all of the sudden. Every time I pulled the rope in the past it always fired right up..one pull. Now, it will not start and when i depress the choke "plunger type" it trickles fuel out and if i lean the motor back the fuel will flow into the manifold and then i can rope start it. However, it will idle high and run burn that fuel up then shut off. I cannot keep it running. Could this be a fuel pump issue? I have thoroughly soaked/cleaned/ and blew air through it and put a rebuild kit in it. Thanks in advance.

It sure does sound like a fuel pump issue. Try disconnecting the carb side of the pump and crank the motor over. You should see a "pulse" of fuel come out.

Alright...I'll go check it out. When you say carb side you mean the one with the flat head screw to remove the pump cover?? I should just remove that and pull the rope to see if it pumps?

Just remove the flat head screw and filter cap and watch what happens. (Check the filter screen while you're at it.

The screen looked good and clean. I didn't really notice anything when i pulled the cord...it's sorta awkward trying to see the fuel pump while pulling the cord but i didn't see any movement from the piece the screw threads into. Isnt the pump behind that?

Disconnect the hose that runs to the carb and try that again. If the pump is working, you'll see fuel squirt out of the hose (a little bit).

When you took the carb apart, did you replace the float valve and seat? Also, did you check the float level by turning the carb body upside down and seeing that the float was parallel with the body? It sounds like there is an obstruction in there since you now know the fuel pump is working. Carbs are sensitive critters and everything inside has to be perfect or it won't work.

Yep i put a new float, needle, valve and all the other parts that come with the kit. I know...seems like an obstruction. I took it back off and recleaned/blew air through it. All clear. Same as before. Driving me nuts. I am tempted to start from the basics and get a new fuel hose/pump ball...maybe its faulty???? cause everything else seems to work. Im not sure how/where the fuel should come out when i choke it but it dribbles out the (venturi?) pickup from the bowl up to the carb...

and i tested the float before i put the carb back on and it worked great.....float was parallel with carb..

There is a idle/low speed needle valve on the starboard side of your carb that should be open about 1/2 turn. Might want to check that.

It was running graet before. New Power pack, coils, plugs, and wires from previous owner. It fires up easily when what little fuel makes it to the intake.....just dont stay running long... I guess it couldnt hurt.. I'll give it a test when im back near it later on and post my findings...any other ideas im all ears....
