Singlet,

something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay......

Having said that: if you don't want the engine please give me their telephone number!!

At the momemnt the exchange rate makes that engine a bargain: I know, because I have one!!
It would be cheaper to by that engine and ship it to the UK than to buy similar model here!

My engine has been used in an FRC (Fast Rescue Craft) and it is superb; lots of low down down torque; ideal for towing other boats out of the weeds.

Bit thirsty but very, very, very reliable!

I love my 4 Cyl 40 to bits; someone else will get her when they pry my stone cold dead fingers from her.......

Bash the price down anyway, claim you are Scottish: always works for me ;-)

cheers

Can someone tell me why these motors are so highly regarded? I have a 1989 4 cyl 40hp Mariner, is it the same as the early to mid 90's models?

Re: 1994 4 cyl. 40 hp

I bought one last season on a 13' Whaler { also a 1994 40 4 banger } I used it over 50 times & it never failed me, love the smooth sound.
It's my favotite 40 horse by far & I've owned a dozen outboards...
The reason they are highly regarded is they have a good reputaion for durabilty & smoothness, 4 cylinders in I believe 44 cubic inches pretty nise design.
I agree they are slightly thirsty but nothing major I beieve it's because it's a crossfire engine & not loop charged ..

do a compression test to be safe but sounds like carbs but they may need rebuilding not just cleaning..

Anything over 120 is good. Anything over 100 and it'll run "OK".

-W
