Two years ago I purchased a 1994 boat with a 90hp evinrude (#E90TKERC). I use the boat 75% in salt water. The only maintenance I have done is to change the plugs. This year I will change the plugs and the oil in the lower unit( I know I can do that) but should I try to change the water pump and thermostat. I called my local dealer and they told me it would be 125.00 labor for the water pump plus the parts. I think I am mechanical enough to take on this myself but wasn't sure on the dificulty. Any advise?

Ahoy, Dwight.

Yes. Change the T'stat and the impeller. Both should be replaced at least every other year in a SW engine.

Get a Repair Manual, http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html , about $35, and save yourself a bunch of bux.

Good luck. :)

While you're got the pump and the T-stat out, it would be a good idea to flush it out to remove corrosion from the saltwater.
