Re: 1994 90HP Force Problems

Mr. Roscoe,

My local dealer didn't have the gasgets that I need, so, rather than getting it torn down and having to wait a week for gasgets, I ordered the gasgets and other parts and should be able to try the fix next week. Since I have owned this motor, the smell of raw gas has been strong. I read in the manual that if the screens are clogged, that it will cause raw gas to be routed into the lake. I think (hope) that this will be the cure I've been looking for. If it is, I'll owe you a Coka Cola and a moon pie! All kidding aside, I do appreciate the help.

I hope it is the answer also.
I'll add the coke and moon pie to the list of collectable debts if it turns out to be the fix. :)

Mr.Roscoe,

I finally got the gasgets and other parts. When I took the part off that holds the 3 screens, it looked as though a hose had deteriorated as there was black rubber (especially in the middle hole). I was completely blocking the center hole but was also in the other 2. It got dark before I finished so I'll take it out tomorrow and try it out. I'll be very surprised if this doesn't fix it. I'll let you know. Thanks again!!!

Mr. Roscoe,

When I took the motor out to try it out, it did the same as before (although it didn't smoke nearly as much at idle). I'm thinking about changing the 3 screens. The problem is, I'm not sure if they press in from the motor side or if I need to take the fuel recirculation assembly completely apart. Can you give me some guidance? Thanks

Could there be water in the gas? Or in the carbs.

Re: 1994 90HP Force Problems

I have drained the tank several times (cleaned it once) because my local dealer told me that the fuel was boiling out of the fuel bowls. He told me to switch to 89 octane, so I drained the tank and tried that...no help.

Mr. Roscoe,

How thick is the plate (#6 in the above drawing)? I ordered the reeds, screens, and gasgets and want to do a total rebuild. However, I can't find a #6 plate in case I bend the one I have. Is it easily bent?

Part is no longer available.

Only ever touched one of those once.
Should be able to get it off without bending it.
Slip a thin knife blade behind it and slide it down if needed.

Some parts can be found by contacting ebayers that are parting out motors. Some guys will gladly sell you the part you need if you ask.

Mr. Roscoe,

I changed the screens and the reeds (just in case). The motor still does the same. One mechanic's solution was to richen the mixture, which did help, but it was so rich that it wouldn't idle very long. I read (I think that it was on this site) that in order to adjust the carbs on a Force, you had use a vacumn guage. Can you walk me through the correct way to adjust the carbs. Every mechanic I've seen adjust them simply leaned them until it started running rough and then richened them slightly.

Thanks for your help.
