I'm seriously considering this boat and would like some opinions on Aquatron quality. The guy is asking 4200 dollars for it and right now seems like a steal, I'm meeting him in a couple days to take out for a run and hope it runs as well as it looks. But won't make a purchase without some input from people from iboats.

Re: 1994 Aquatron B/R - Please give opinion

i had an Aquatron 180 BR, great boat. now what motor does it have, this is a big question. as there were some 4.3 mercruisers, that used an longer available exhaust manifold, and exhaust pipe. i had major problems when it came time to replace. if the motor has these manifolds, pic below, it is going to cost in the range of $1200 to replace them. actually at that age it should be due for it's second set of manifolds. $4200 is high for a 15 year old Aquatron.
marked in red are the no longer available exhaust manifolds, there is an expensive replacement kit.

Thanks for the input. It has the 3.0 mercruiser. What would you consider a good price for the boat.

4.3 is the minimum, i would consider for that boat. especially if you want to do any water sports, skiing, tubeing, wakeboarding. the 3.0 will be slow to plane, it is basically underpowered for the hull. with a 3.0 not over $2,500. i will be hard to sell when you get ready.

Hi,
I'm looking at an aquatron with the v6 motor, it's a 1998, does that have the bad manifolds?
Is there a way to check condition of manifolds? Seller says has replaced them already, i'll look this weekend.
Thanks Newbie

Re: 1994 Aquatron B/R - Please give opinion

I am the original owner of a 1994 190LX. It is a wonderful boat! I looked at many B/R models. Well priced at the time and has given me many years of trouble free use. I have the (Chevy V-6) 262/185HP Mercuriser 4.3LX 4 barrel and it is amazing! It does however require the Mercruiser Quicksilver STAINLESS prop for decent performance. I heard a rumor from my mechanic, when he replaced the rubber outdrive bellows (my first and ONLY repair after 13 years) that the exhaust manifolds rust out and are costly - I NEVER experienced ANY issues. Granted it only has 350hrs. I do take exceptional care of my boat. I plan to put it on the market this weekend, probably around $6k with the options and trailer. For those of you considering any 84" widebeam B/R of 18'-19'; DO NOT BUY ONE WITH THE 3.0/4cyl. The 2bbl V-6 is barely adequate for this model.

Re: 1994 Aquatron B/R - Please give opinion

I bought a 1996 Aquatron BR with the 3.0 last year for 5500. Bought it from a friend who takes great care of his boats and had added a swim platform, so I was happy with the price. I am content with the performance, but I really just cruise to our favorite cove and anchor off. Pulled some kids on tubes a couple times with no problem. That being said if I were to buy a new boat I would get the 4.3.
