I purchased this boat a couple of weeks ago for a great price. The motor is sound, as is the hull, upholstery, and flooring.

I took the boat out last weekend and noticed two problems that I would like a little help on if possible.

PROBLEM 1:
The UP trim button on the merc. does not work. I had to use the larger tilt button to trim up (The large button on the throttle). Is there any harm in this until I get it fixed? What could the problem be and how to fix it would be my second question(s)

Problem 2:
Of much more importance to me is a fuel problem. When I took the boat to the gas station to fill up, I did not know the capacity of the gas tank and completely filled up to the point of spilling a couple of ounces of fuel on the ski platform that I cleaned up with some paper towels and my wife's wet wipes.

At the lake, we only went out for about 15 minutes to test everything out. We were on lake Talquin and the wind was blowing too hard to see the stumps (LOTS of them) So I decided to go back in after hitting a couple of them (VERY low speed, no hull or prop damage, just a couple of bumps.)

When I got home, I parked the truck and the boat in the drive way. I then flushed it with the engine running at idle for about 3 minutes, shut everything down and went inside. A couple of hours later I went outside and smelled gas. I noticed that a few ounces of gas has came out of what I assume is the vent (silver "plug & grommet" located about 5 inches from the fuel cap above the ski deck) and spilled onto the deck and pooled up. I cleaned off the fuel and assumed since I over filled it and didn't run it too much that the vent worked due to the outside heat expanding the fuel in the tank.

Well, today, I pulled the boat around to do some maintenance on it. Upon coming back from the store, same thing, gas coming out of the "vent" and onto the ski deck. I unscrewed the gas cap and had a long and strong "whoosh" of gas pressure come out of the cap.

Is this a problem? Or is this normal since it's so hot and the tank is so full? Is there any maintenance to perform on the vent?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me for these two problems. I have never owned a bayliner or an I/O before and would like to get an owners manual and maybe a maintenance manual for the boat.

Ayuh,... It's expected with an Overfull tank.... Just keep the vent Clear, is about the only maintanance..

Check the wiring for the Trim Limit Switch on the drive,.... That's probably where the problem is...

LOL. With the gas leaking out of it, I'm pretty sure I am performing the maintenance of keeping the vent clear :)

Thank you for your response. I will search for info on replacing or repairing the trim limit switch. I think it's time for me to buy a repair manual! Any recommendations? I guess if I got the bayliner manual for my boat it would help, but I doubt it would have this kind of information in it.

You might try dropping the front of the trailor down till you pump out or burn off some of the gas. That may let the pressure vent rather than pushing gas out.

That is exactly what I did! Lets see if it works.

As far as the trim limit switch....I have been looking at replacement. The repair seems daunting for me to do.

Can anyone give an average repair estimate that a marine shop would charge for something like this? I know there are TONS of variables, but a high and low estimate would be VERY appreciative.
