OK guys you have seen me asking questions like crazy on the subject. Took her out for a last gasp and to get the gas out of her. The Mrs. goes in for some minor surgery in 2 weeks and probably won't be able to be in the water so figured what the hey might as well get started. Will try to upload some pics as I go and if I remember. working on getting the old garage setup (more like cleaned up:facepalm:) today. maby start pulling upholstry.

Well, I removed the upholstry yesterday and found out what else was coming
IMG_4177.jpg

Got the carpet out and saved all the pieces. I hope to have everything pretty much close to the odl as possible so I am going to try to use these as templates.
took the windshield off as well. boat is starting to look strange

Spent the latter part of the morning removing the seat block and running the bilge pump to remove the sweat HOT!

wow thats alot of rot there. i feel like im in the same boat as you. lol. seriously though my side panels were in the same sort of shape as yours as well as some of the other interior parts. hows your floor around the motor area? also are you going to rebuild the seat boxes?

The deck had been redecked by a PO by simply adding another layer. The Floor seems solid everywhere but with a much closer inspection I had enough bugs and worms that I wouldn't have had to buy any bait. that was just under the seat boxes towards the ski locker. Yah, I will be rebuilding the seat boxes will build them off the boat and all will be fully encapilated in fiberglass. Then will glass them to the floor. Gonna be a while before I get to that though as I will be removing every piece of wood and redoing it all except hopefully the transom.

Spent a couple leasure days working on getting the boat split. Lots of fun when you are working alone. Body filler was used to fill between transom and the top unit and took alot of work with a chisle to get it free. placed 2x4's under the top after I got it free in preperation for having a few neighbors come over.
IMG_4194.jpg

luckily we had 5 of us with the MRS. and was an easy move
IMG_4197.jpg

Glad I did remove the motor and top half becase the transom is totally rotted and had started to delaminate from the hull.
It is a definate that a PO decked over deck and condemned this boat to a life of total cancer.

I got most of the deck removed today. Had to take yesterday and make some money. Here is what I have found

IMG_4217.jpg

A PO definatly did add over rotten wood. You can see what a mistake that is!!!!

Luckily it seems the foam is not all that wet. only a few places that are damp about 1/16-1/8 of an inch deep. Will try to save the majority of it for the base of the new deck. As well the main stringers were well wrapped and do not seem to have any rot. I will take core samples just to be sure.

Well I stand corrected foam is wet. Word to those about to do a restore, if your foam seems dry pull atleast a small amount out down to the hull. you may be surprised at what you find
IMG_4229.jpg

I have the boat almost down to just the hull. I have gotten lucky for once. two fo the main stringers look to be in good shape. I will pull a couple of core samples just to be sure but on inspection of other things deemed to be "ok" I was corrected. Foam is all out now as well.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you. You're doing a great job with updates and pictures. Looking forward to the progress!

Was there something specific that caused you to start the restore? I ask because I bought a 95 bayliner a few months ago and noticed two small areas that have soft spots. After looking at your pics I'm fearful of what may uncover.

Yes, I noticed a couple of soft spots in the stringers so I really figured that if they were bad than there might be more going on with the decking as well. When I noticed that there seemed to be double ply on the deck I asked on here and found out that I might be looking at a big problem there.

Spent the day making copies of the stringers and cutting out some of the old. also was time to vacume out all the crap. Pulled the fuel tank for better access to a couple stringers and figure that it is open so best time to clean and inspect the tank. thought there might only be about 5 gals in it. turned out that there is atleast 10. gotta get another gas can.

Today was spent cleaning up the tabbing. Since I wanted to ensure that I did not cut through the hull I stayed about 1 inch in from the hull when demoing the wood structure. I went bach and cut all those lines as close to the hull as possible with my 4 1/2 inch grinder. Which for all that cutting I used a sarated concrete blade and a saws-all. tomorrow I will go back over it with 36 grit flap sanding disks to finish up. Still have the transom to remove.

Cleaning up tabbing took a while and was messy as could be!! took 1.5 days just to clean up the dust so I wouldn't be itching for the rest of my life!!! Finally got to removing the transom at the end of it all and did have to remove ALL the stringers. the two I thought might be good were soaked. This is what my transom looked like!!! YUCK!!!

Re: 1994 bayliner capri 1800 redeck and restring

Started to make the two main stringers. Since they were made from 1x8x12 and the longest any of the local lumber yard had were 8 footers I am making it from plywood. to splice the two together I had to join the two. I set back 1 foot and set my saw depth to the depth of a couple plys. I them notched it all the way up the board and with a wood chisle chipped away from the slots. I then did the same using the first as a template for start of my cuts and removed the the remaining plys on the new piece. Them sanded to ensure that there was no problems between teir glue and mine. then glued and clamped them.

Thats a good looking hull you have there. Keep it up and you'll have a great little boat to be proud of.
