1994 bayliner jazz jet boat 1400

I recently bought a 94 bayliner jazz jet boat. It started when i bought it but now it turned over a couple times then quit and just ticked. Battery was just charged. I don't really know much about this boat. Any ideas? Also, where can i find info on buying parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I really want to get out on the water and enjoy this nice weather in Michigan. Thanks!

Either the battery is shot, the starter is shot, or, most likely, you've got one or more bad connections. Start by cleaning all the connections shiny clean, and tighten them securely. If that doesn't work, bring the battery to a large auto parts store for a load test.

the battery is good. I tried with another battery and it does the same thing. I'm going to clean the connections again but if it is the starter do you know where I can find one online? I'm having a hard time finding them. Thanks for your help!!

ok, all connections are now cleaned. Still just clicks once when I try to start it...

Make sure you are getting juice to the starter itself, not just the solenoid or relay.

sounds like a starter , hook a test light to the power terminal on the bottom of the starter , have someone turn the key and see if it lights up , if it does your solenoid is good , time to pull the starter off and bench test it out of the boat .

ok, I tested it and there is juice going to the starter. How do I bench test it? Not familiar with that.

There will be two terminals on the starter solenoid that are involved here. There is a large one with a heavy gauge cable leading directly to the positive battery terminal (or common post of the battery switch if there is one) and a much smaller terminal whose wire goes to the "Start" terminal on the ignition switch. You should always have power to the large terminal; the small terminal is only energized when the key is turned to the "start" position.

There is also a large terminal on the starter motor itself. To test the motor, bridge the two large terminals with a jumper cable. If it spins properly and the starter gear moves out, the motor and gear are okay, and the problem is the solenoid.

Note: When bench-testing a starter, the starter MUST be secured to prevent it from twisting. They produce a fair amount of torque and it will jump! Also, to complete the circuit, run a jumper cable from the negative battery terminal to the starter housing.
