Re: 1994 Evinrude 112 SPL Cracked Float Chambers
I started the motor tonight and so far so good I guess. It seems to run good and idles good. The only thing I noticed was when I went to first start it it had a spot where it seemed to "catch". Starting it warm it popped right over. After that I let it cool and changed the lower unit fluid. I waited another half hour or so and then I started it again. I did not pull up the high idle lever at first and it seemed to have the "catch" again when starting it. I know on four stroke motors that this can be because of timing advanced too far. I did advance the timing 4 more degrees than where it was before and it should be right at spec if the reeves method actually works. Anyway, when it catched it popped over once and snorted out the exhaust. I lifted the high idle lever a little and it started right up the next turn of the key. I idled it down right away and it idled real nice. Any thoughts on why it "catches"? Could my timing be too high for some reason?
The other thing I did not do was check the battery. It has been sitting all summer disconnected so maybe its low on charge. It did seem to turn over fine, but maybe not fine enough when under compression with a charge of air/fuel. I will put it on the charger tonight.
