Hows it going... ive used this alot in the past just reading other peoples problems and solutions but no luck this time....
So hopefully someone has seen this before...
I have a 1994 evinrude 175 I bought it off a guy i knew it always ran great for him never a problem..
Well i put it on my boat. and instead of running the VRO i removed it and blocked off the oil lines and mix my gas 50:1.
i do not know if this has anything to do with the problem but...
i have had the boat out about 10 times now ran great. I took it out fishing Fired right up ran about 8 miles back at the lake fished overnight... morning fired up on way back it acted as if it ran out of gas at sputtering to a hault.

so i messed with it on the water for about 4 hours and by moving the little red shrader switch on the carbs. i could get it to fire up and id rev it up once and it would die... over and over and over again....

The red valve is part of the primer solenoid. Not totally sure what the problem is, are you getting spark? If you are, then the only other part missing is fuel. Check the fuel lines, tank, tank valve, whatever you can and make sure they are all still connected (I'm saying this since you just recently did the VRO removal), and if all is good, suspect the carbs have got something in them.
That's just my guess, I am sure others will come along with more knowledge than myself, but it may get you going for now at least.

Just because it fires up for a moment doesn't mean it's not dropping spark afterwards. Ij ust want to make sure we rule it out. It's an easy check, and I'd hate to do all this other stuff thinking it's fuel related just to find out later it was spark.

So if a few plugs are fouled or something could that be a reason it would be hard to start... not starting Until its firing first on a good plug and then cannot maintain after that initial burst???

Will it keep running if you keep squeezing the bulb ???
Does the primer bulb still have some pressure in it when it dies on you ???

i think its spark because even when i shot some gas straight down the wholes its doing the same thing... i belive there is plenty of fuel. i just put brand new plugs in there... and same thing....what could just shut down like that just running accross the lake.. power pack?

You said that you blocked off the oil part of the VRO (Very smart move) But did you disable all of the sensors meant to detect oil level/loss, I know on the newer VRO models when disabling the oil half the the VRO, you need to disable all of the oil sensors so that it doesn't shut the motor off because it detects no oil, its not going to be able to detect that you are running 50:1 in your gas, your engine is blind to that and might be thinking crap no oil and shutting off.

that sounds good and all but why after 10 boat trips and why all of the sudden while going across the lake..

I'd check my fuel filter for trash, then do a compression check if both of those are alright. I'd point my finger at the powerpack as the next possible source.

Powerpack, plugwires, coils. If its your coils or plug wires you can start it at night and watch the fireworks show on the back of your motor. Usually with a bad coil or wire you'll see the spark jumping around. If you don't see any spark then more than likely its your powerpack. Look for cracks on the coil packs or any knicks in your wires.

I replaced both on mine. Probably could have done without it though. I would go ahead and buy it if it was me.
