Hey all. I'm new to boat motors and forums, so please bear with me. I have a 1994 evinrude 30 horse E30ELERM and I'm trying to change the impeller... I have read about all I can on this site and I hate to ask the same question... but when I drop the lower unit (4 hidden bolts and 1 nut in the back) it only comes down about 1/2 inch. I've read here that I need to unhook the shift linkage. I just really can't figure out exactly how to do this. I'm starting to wonder if this motor is different than the ones I've been reading about. If anyone could please help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. -Bill

ha, I was right there with ya last fall. Y'know where the plastic screen on the lower unit is...where the water gets sucked up? Take those two screws out and you'll find the culprit that's holding you up...the shift linkage connection.

I'll help you out with this....if it's never been off- SCRAPE OFF THE PAINT above the fitting. You need to loosen it and slide it upwards, and if the paint is there, you'll fight it trying to get clearance to get the little plastic keeper off the rod to get everything loose.

It's really easy once you figure out exactly how it all goes together.
