Might be better if you posted a picture of your unit and a serial/model # of your engine. Otherwise you may have to wait until someone with that exact motor, that has replaced their trim motor, comes along and sees your question. Just a suggestion.

they aren't worth rebuilding. the bearings are usually bad and it costs more to rebuild than throw away. get the chinese one and coat it with a can of flex-seal or something similar. make sure to attach a short length of stainless wire from one of the four corner bolts over to transom clamp. china motors have real issues with galvanic and if not properly protected they can eat themselves up in just a few seasons. If you are not into the whole rubberized painting and ground strapping then just buy an ARCO.

Thanx, kinda confused on which motor to buy? Which motors on iboats can I use, or should I buy one on eBay? How do I know if its compatible?

Thanx for the help, this is my first boat...

Dirtyrice, RRitt is THE man when it comes to these things, so let him confirm, but I'm pretty sure this;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Force-Tilt-..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item439b9ebe87&vxp=mtr

Is the one you need. You have a blue and a green wire coming out from the top, correct?
By the way, the above IS one of the Chinese tilt/trims that RRitt is talking about.

If I buy the cheaper one, do I spray the sealant on the outside of the motor? Is the wire I should attach a ground? Another question, when I hit the trim button I hear buzzing, so that's good. How do I know if the pump is good and where is it located. U guys are the best... Thanx!

We'll let Jigg answer the tough stuff, but the "rubberise stuff" is similar to that product they advertise where the pitch man cuts out the bottom of a john boat and puts a screen door in it's place; sprays on this stuff and "It floats all day with no leaks!!" (woohoo). As for the ground wire, it needs to be stainless to help prevent galvanic corrosion.

The tilt cylinder and the trim cylinder should be between the two brackets that attach the motor to the boat.

So I just spray the outside of the motor with the sealant? Still not sure what the pump looks like and how to see if its good? If anyone has a pic that would be awesome. Thanx again for the help!

Here's a picture of the parts diagram. This should help you locate all you're looking for;

And yes, he's saying to spray the motor with the rubber stuff all over. You're trying to help prevent corrosion from taking place not change the color, if that makes sense. The Chinese replacement units, while less expensive, have obviously shown that they're more prone to galvanic corrision.

Eric wrong pump.Go to a newer model.

Looks like they're gonna block the good parts. boats .net look up your motor.
To find the later pumps go to the 1996/97 model.Look for style 1 or 2
Try these.
Now if your wondering if it's bad or good get the factory manual and they will give step by step directions.
The pump is under the electric motor.

I'm glad you came by. I was starting to worry that I was his only help and we know how that would'v turned out, lol. He'd be "new boat shopping" by the time I was finished.

(Jerry, iboats is blocking those links, btw. At least on my computer)

this one works fine. www.ebay.com/itm/200791315982

gently and carefully take the tubes loose from bottom of manifold. cover with plastic.
take pump assembly into garage and put into vice upside down.
remove manifold from reservoir. take motor out of vice and dump out oil.
select proper drive shaft length for new motor and test fit manifold.
put new motor into vice upside down.
use 2-3 very tiny droplets of insta-glue to hold gasket into groove.
assemble manifold onto motor using Mercury # 88238A18 ground strap on one corner bolt
gently install 3/8-24 thread plugs into ports, if using bolts do not tighten since they will damage port flare
wash motor to remove all oil. TSP wash followed by coleman camp fluid wipedown works great.
spray an infinitely thick coating of plastic spray sealer.
mount back on boat, add oil, go boating.

Thanx, I was looking at it and I hear it buzzing. The guy I bought it from said it was leaking oil from the ram cylinders I believe. Is it a pain to take them off. Not sure how to do it. Can I try to add oil to them to see if it leaked out? Where do I add oil? I looked on eBay to buy new ones, didn't c any. Is there anywhere else I can purchase or can I send the rams somewhere to b fixed? Thanx

the trim ram is fixable. the tilt ram only half fixable. the top seals are proprietary but the piston ring is same as earlier force.
