I am looking at buying this boat.
this is a 1994 Fuel Injected 351 Cobra 5.8L FORD with Multi Port fuel injection.
When you listen to the video there is a miss or hunting of RPM.
I dont think that is normal and would like to know how hard it would be to fix.
the craigslist ad is:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/2484074135.html

the youtube video with sound is:
http://youtu.be/q1LPYoz__VU

The owner told me they just put rebuilt heads on it, after it bent a pushrod, and new heat exchangers. Also all new plugs and wires, cap, rotor.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Dave,

That's a REALLY nice looking boat and it appears that the owner has taken really good care of it!

It's really hard to tell in a Youtube video how it's running though. The only way to test that boat would be to put it in the water and shift it/run it under load.

Now having said that........RUN AWAY FROM THAT BOAT AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!

That engine has a more than $1000ECM that is no longer available, a distributor (with distributor parts) that is no longer available. and a complete EFI system with parts that are no longer available.

So if ANYTHING goes awry with the ignition or fuel injection system, You would be replacing the intake manifold and distributor with a carburetor and an after market dist.

Depending on if it's a 93 or a 94, it may actually have a Volvo Penta SX drive on the back. That'll depend on the actual model number.

For 94 (or 94.5 which MAY really be 95), the model numbers below appear to be the ones with the ENGINE mounted RAW water pump.

5.80
584ACPMDA 1994
584AGPMDA 1994
58FACPMDA 1994
58FACPMDM 1994
58FAGPMDA 1994
58FAGPMDM 1994
58FBDPMDA 1994

If it's actually a 93, it should have the model numbers indicated below.

584APLJVB 1993
584APRJVB 1993
584DPEJVB 1993
584DPPJVB 1993
58FAPEJVB 1993
58FAPLJVB 1993
58FAPLJVN 1993
58FAPPJVB 1993
58FAPRJVB 1993
58FAPRJVN 1993
58FBPEJVB 1993

Some of the above have drive mounted raw water pumps.

I don't have some secret manual ferreted away......This is ALL from BRP's own site. Anyone can look it up. http://epc.brp.com/

For the kind of money they are asking for the boat, You can buy something that either is a few years newer and has either a Volvo Penta or Mercruiser engine and drive.

Generally speaking, if you are looking for a boat, you should avoid the letters OMC any where in the ad. ESPECIALLY before about 1998 or so....... (there was no OMC after 1998.......they went completely out of business!!)

The owner may or may not know any of this. (my guess is that he's selling it so he doesn't have to fix it eventually) A lot of local dealers (especially dumb salesmen) think ANYTHING OMC in the 90's is "Volvo"......

Good luck. (You'll REALLY need it if you buy that boat!!) YOu are REALLY smart to comeon here and ask about mid to late 90's OMC. A LOT of people (including me) wished they had done the same thing!!!(see my signature)
