guy connected battery backwards, tried to start, now no fire. did he blow the stator? he replaced rectifier, still no spark, power pack has been replaced also.

Probably burned the new rectifier too. If the diodes fused, full battery power could reach the stator and then other ignition components.

First, try starting after disconnecting the new rectifier.

no change disconnected, still no spark.

Silly question, but have you eleminated the boat wiring as a potential problem and if not the boat wiring than the only other two possabilties are either the stator or the trigger. Have seen this in the past and there was no rhyme or reason as to what was affected.
