My controls are faulty as it has an intermittent fault in the neutral switch when in warm up mode. How do I get it apart, it has a central push button in the middle of the shift lever. The lever is on a spline. Do I simply use force to get it off the spline once the centre screw has been removed? Also it won't always start unless I wriggle the lever.

I'd recommend going to shop.evinrude.com and locating the set of controls you have in their parts diagrams. It may take some sorting, but it's there. I took mine apart and replaced several broken screws and assorted parts, as well as cleaned up all the old grease and applied new grease to it. I can't recall exactly how it all came apart, or I'd just write that out.

My controls are different. They are flush mount and the ignition is in the dash. The bulk of the mechanism is between the hull and side of the boat. I have attached a pic of the hub. I know there is a screw under the rubber boot and the lever is on a spline but it appears stuck. I would like to kno if there is a specific disassembly method though.

Cannot tell from your picture which of the dozens of controls you have but you might be able to spot it in the BRP parts catalog if you search the "OB Accessories" then "1994", then "Remote Control". http://shop.evinrude.com/

In many of the concealed side mount controls, you move the handle to full reverse and loosen the set screw at the bottom of the handle with an allen wrench.

Thanks, I found it where you said it would be. Couldn't find this before. It's in the 1994 area, it's the Remote control Assembly-Concealed side mount. I see part number 57 looks like a lock screw as you say. I will try and select full reverse and remove it. Thanks a lot.

When you replace the handle, torque the set screw to 25-35 in. lbs.

DF - I have the same set of controls on my '95. They need to come off as part of a reburbish job I'm doing over the winter. So, I have the same problem as you... I've been looking all around the parts section of the BRP/Johnson/Evinrude site and can't seem to find the parts breakdowns for the control handles. If you could, please point me in the right direction.

Never mind - it was a little tricky, but I found it. Thanks Ezeke and DF for this information.

Yeah it was tricky to find. Unscrewed the stainless grub screw while in full reverse and the handle came straight off. Will disassemble after Christmas. It's 35 degrees Celsius over here in Australia today, can't handle going into the shed now to work on it I think I will melt... Glad this helped someone else out thanks..
