I just boat the boat and with this engine. The dealer put a new fuel pump in it and represented the engine as working fine. I took it out a few days ago and made two 10 second runs at full throttle. It ran fine but then it just died and would not re-start (would turn over, just not start running). I examined the engine and saw that the arm leading from the quick idle (?) to the carb had popped off the ball joint. I placed it back on but engine would not start. After many tries I finally got it to start by pumping the choke on the key. When I stopped pressing it, the engine died. I've had this happen before and it ment clogged carbs/jets. But would this still be true if the engine ran perfect for about 20 seconds prior to stopping? The only other thing I can think of is that debris became lodged in the carb (there are 2 fuel filters connected).

Since I can get the engine to idle somewhat, I'm wondering if I could remove the idle screw (and/or something else) and spray cleaner into the carb to possibly get it to run better. If I can get it to idle, I would like to try adding OEM Tuner to the gas. I'd like to avoid removing and cleaning the carbs but it that is what I need to do, I will. Any thoughts on this?

Howdy, tcope.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Multiple carbs rarely all fail at once. Sounds like fuel, fuel supply or fuel pump to me.

If it idles a litte bit that might help but first, on the port side of the carbs there is a brass plug remove it and clean the high speed jet with some spray carb cleaner, this will do a couple of things, drain any water in the fuel bowls if any, clean the high speeds, all fuel must travel thru them and by pumping the bulb you can ck fuel flow to each carb. Then call the seller and tell him you did not get a single ride out of he unit he said was good, in fact do that first---Bob

Actually did do that first :)

He said that I should remove and drain the water seperator that they installed and there had been water in the tank. he said if this did not work, call him and he'd walk me through one other thing it might be. I drained the seperator filter. It was actually full of water. Tried starting the engine. Nothing. Arrggg... I tried for awhile more and then the engine kicked but did not start. A few more times and it idles for about 5 seconds. I then got the engine to idle for a few more seconds and immediatly moved the thottle forward. The engine started to run. After awhile I moved the throttle back to idle and the engine ran great! Yeah..! It was actually very quite and smooth. I plan on adding some OEM Tuner to the gas to assist with the clean up. I already had added some fuel stabilizer gas and I'm sure that is now in the engine.

I'm _very_ happy :) Thanks for everyone's assistance!
