1994 Merc 200 HP. Idle is too fast in neutral and when in gear won't take power.

Hello to all. Today had a new problem pop up. The day started out ok, but after making a few moves noticed this new problem. When I started the motor the engine was running faster than usual ( in neutral), when I put it into forward it really slammed in hard, I guess due to the high rpms. So then when I tried to go faster in forward I couldn't accelerate past about 2000rpm. Limped all the way back to dock and had a hell of a time backing her in. Any help is appreciated.

Also, the first time this happened yesterday, I put the control back in neutral and pushed the button on the side of the for/rev control arm. I revved the engine to about 2200 rpm for a second or two, after doing this the problem lessened but it still went into forward harder than usual.
