1994 OMC Cobra

I recently puchased a boat with an OMC sterndrive Not sure if this drive is 400,800, SX, OMC or Volvo Its a 1994 5.8L MPI and the model # on the drive is 38688096 serial T0781217 any help would be greatly appreciated verifing this drive

Why confused? You say it's a omc why would volvo be in the equation Or mentioned.

In my mind i believe it to be a king cobra. Omc. Ford motor.

You have a manual ??

i have read that volvo got involved with omc in about 93 and started using volvo gearsets and a cone clutch assembly in the omc sterndrive. cobra sx model

Being a 94 chances are it's the cobra SX, does the upper have a bulge on the very top or is it square and flat, post a picture of it.

When Volvo and OMC started the joint venture in 1993, the SX drive was then know (on the OMC side) as a King Cobra. The 3rd different OMC drive with that designation. Now how could that confuse anybody

The one on the boat is an 86-93 pure OMC Cobra, flat across the top
The other pic is the one they built with Volvo, with the hump on top, if it's that one it's the joint venture product.

my 94 omc definitly has the hump on top of upper housing so it must be the sx omc drive
