Hello,

I have been reading up on this forum for a couple weeks try to get my recently bought boat running. The boat sat for a couple years before I bought and had no spark. Well I have spark now, and I was ready to start and ran into another problem...

I put the spark plugs in and the starter can barely turn it over.. Battery is brand new. Turns over just fine without plugs.
Starter will start to smoke after a couple revolutions and slip.

Is the starter the problem? What could cause too much compression? I will not be able to run a compression test until this weekend. The guy I bought it from said the compression of 135 in all cylinders, sounds high to me.

Thanks for the help.

135 is a desent number but what matters most is the compression between cylinders are they all close to each other. sounds like a bad starter to me if its smoking.
