Hopefully I can figure out what outdrive I have before I start ordering parts or get the outdrive yanked. i have an outdrive problem. My boat is a 1994 Baha 295 Conquistar, engines (5.0L Ford 302) just replace but outdrives original.

Starboard outdrive has no forward or reverse. Was crusing ar 30 knowts 3400 rpm when all of the sudden, no load and engine (starboard) revs up to 6,000 rpms. I did not spin a prop and i did not hit anything.

The starboard outdrive in forward gear, I spin the prop and shaft by hand CCW but not CW.

In reverse I can spin the prop and shft CW, but in CCW I can still spin it, but it has drag, almost like tightening a stripped bolt.

Anyone got any ideas on whats wrong?

With twins, outdrives are usually counter rotating. NOTHIING is wrong, it's quite normal. Just don't put the props on the wrong drive.

Re: 1994 Vovlo Outdrive PROBLEM

i read one of your response's to an outdrive not runnign at full speed one day then ok the next ... either spun prop or engine coupler?

i am not a mechanic, however my new engines were running fine. i was at 3400 rpm 30 knots probably and then the starboard engine races up to 6000 rpm's and nothing for power. i shut it down and limped in on the port engine. i need a starter on the starboard side, however when i put this engine in forward , i can turn the prop ccw but Not cw.

When i put it in reverse i can turn the prop easy cw, and then I can also turn it ccw. it is a little rought with drag, almost like tightening a stripped bolt.

i tried the same with the port side and only get to turn the prop one way each time with it locking up in the other direction.

You think i have one of these engine coupler problems? busted shaft somewhere? broken gear?

i know or almost 100% sure it is not a spun prop. BUT something is wrong
