Hello!
I'm trying to figure out my missfiring problem so to day I was cleaning all contacts and find out one of the rectifiers is toast , at least looks like it.
I posted a picture with the rectifier .
My question is , could this rectifier do anything to the stator?? if it went bad like this?? you can see that both yellow wires are toasted, and the rubber insulation was melted.
Second question that I have is , I need to replace both of my switch boxes so I was looking online , found some at around $130.00 a pc and then looked on ebay and found some PRUFREX boxes made in germany at around $90.00 /pc, any good????
Any advice as what is good out there and what is not ??
If you guys know a good place to get some for a good price I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for any replies.

Those old style rectifiers were troublesome. Yes a shorted rectifier will cause stators to overheat and run poorly, you may disconnect the rectifiers and tape the wire to test run to see if thats the problem. Don't waste money on poor quality parts get the best CDI

Those regulators are junk. The mercury black potted ones are OK, as is the CDI replacement.

It's real expensive to guess at these problems and throw parts at it. It would be much better to get a DVA and the troubleshooting instructions, and determine where your ignition failure is. It could be
Stator
Trigger
Switchbox(s)
coil
flywheel

The regulator, unless it's completely shorted and something else is marginal, is not likely to cause ignition failure. If it is suspected, simply disconnecting it will isolate it. No battery power is used to run the ignition. Only to crank the engine and operate trim, choke, etc.

hope it helps

Hey Martin!
Thanks for your input.
I disconnected both regulators and problem is still there.
From what I've read on this forum I went ahead and ordered 2 new CDI rectifiers and I will replace both of them .
I disconnected the bias cable in between switch boxes and the engine runs the same.I'm lookin to get a dva.
I hope I'll have it here by the end of the week so I can do some testing.
Thanks
I'll post some more once I get to it again.
