Picked up a 1994 Evinrude 15 horse long shaft outboard. Everything I've had has always been from the 50's and 60's. The changeover for that era was just remove the 'mid' section housing and change the shaft. Is there anything different or unique or something to be aware of when changing from a long to short shaft on this newer motor? thanks

dont know a whole lot about your project, but im trying to find missing parts for a 1990 8 hp short shaft, looks like you will need the obvious parts.....driveshaft, shift rod and the three shorter bolts that hold the lu to the leg.....and a short water tube

I'm not that sure but if you haven't got the long shaft "extension" in it, the exhaust hsg was built for long shaft only and it's pretty hard to make a short shaft out of it.

The motor was made in short, long and sel versions......long and sel with removeable extensions.....your motor without the 5 inch leg extension will give you a short leg.....

The conversion should be reasonably straightforward.....driveshaft, shiftrod and water tube will be the main components you will need to replace, may as well service the water pump while youre in there though.....the lower set of bolts you already have will be fine.....i see a couple of sleeve extensions on the longshaft which you will be removing.....i would be checking everything is going to mate up and work as it should before proceeding.

i made short shaft from my 15 hp 96 lngshaft.
take out extension,
cut of 5" driveshaft and weld back,
cut of 5" shift rod from upper sidde
cut of 5" water pipe using hand metal saw
and its all
