Hey all, first post here.
I have a 1995 120hp Force by mercury that will not start.
Ran fine yesterday...has no spark...I am original owner and all connections are like new...
Cover has been removed once to change plugs 3 years ago.
Motor cranks fast.
I am at the lake with my kids and boat will not start...
I have disconected the kill switch...all connections appear to be good.
Thanks...

Hello:

Although your engine does say "Made By Mercury Marine" Thazt doesn't make it a Mercury. It IS a Force, and aside from maybe the lower unit and a few electronics, it has nothing to do with Mercury Outbaords.

There IS a Force/Chrysler forum for your engine.

Please move to Force/Chrysler

LOL thanks for help just wanted to state its not mercury lol well it is. Built on same assembly line mercury, mariners. So yes it's mercury but no block is force. Landyard switch! Make sure it's on no off. If the cover has not been removed for years lol your not maintaining the motor.

Ignition coils appear to be same as Mercury...as does flywheel and starter.
Just need some troubleshooting tips...seems like stator or cdi not working as we water skiied
Behind it yesterday...

A '95 Force 120 will have Mercury-designed ignition if I recall. Either way, resistance checks of the stator and trigger assy's can pinpoint or rule out problems with those. Not much you can check on the switchbox.

It's highly unlikely for all (4) coils to fail simultaneously, so if you find the stator and trigger ohm-out OK, I'd bet on the switchbox.

Recommend replacing any electronics you find bad with CDI/Rapair repair parts, they're better than OEM.

Then why does this forum say "Mercury/Mariner and the other is Force/Chrysler?? This one doesn't say Mercury/Mariner/Force.

Also if it was a Mercury, ,then "Mercury" would be the only name on the engine

Thank GOD Force and Chrysler are gone now

Bit hard on the guy that just read "Mercury" the side of his motor. You know Force was made by Merc just like Jeep was made AMC and then Crysler.
Anyway, I think you need to look into that kill switch, I am guess it is grounded out some where.

Thanks for the support...my Force was made by Brunswick...and has a Mercury marine serial number...anyway just a normal guy trying to fix my "outboard" while on vacation at the lake with my family...I will try another post in Force forum...kill switch has been disconnected.

i can see where this thread might have been frustrating had i been the one needing help.

it seemed to turn into "who made who"

my apoligies.

did it even try to fire over? like a little pop or stumble at all?

if not i would say your not getting any spark.

if i were stuck on the ramp, i would pull up, pull all the plugs, then plug one of them onto one of the plug wires and turn the motor over and see if you can see spark. checking every plug wire one at a time.

be aware that if atomized fuel blows out of the plug hole and come in contact with the sparking plug it could ignite.

check each plug wire, one at a time only.

then if you see good spark on all wires you can move on to the fuel system, but if it wont even fire the slightest bit im betting you have a spark issue.
