Here we are again, another seasons upon us and here I am getting ready and asking questions. (again)

My 1995 150 worked perfect three days ago. Ran without a hitch. Today I load everything up and my starboard motor is not coming up to speed. I pulled the plugs and no spark on the starboard side.

I pulled the shift switch and bypassed it having read it kills one half for smooth shifts. This has no effect.

I'm assuming since there are three coil packs that the chances of them all failing on the right side at the same time is almost nill. So whats left? Power pack and stator?

Whats your best bet on the part to replace? I'm thinking power pack. It just looks like the likely candidate as all the plug wires ultimately come from it.

As I've got twins I dont mind having a spare part or two laying around, but the power pack is two bills... Any educated guesses?

I don't think that replacement roulette is a good idea. Bad coils can kill powerpacks over and over.

Maintenance free batteries can also cause powerpack failures.

This link will probably help: Troubleshooting CDI Systems

Just scroll down for the OMC parts.

Good luck!

Re: 1995 150 Starboard side no spark....

New power pack solved it. I know it's not a good idea to play replacement roulette. I only have because I know my motors and believe I know why the origional power pack failed.

I've been fighting dead batteries. I use my boat often usually at least every two weeks. Lately I've been having slow cranking problems. On my last trip out 32 was completely dead. #1 fired right up and I switched my battery switch to #2 to give it full juice. Watching my battery meter I noticed it was around 18 VDC. Indicating the battery was not taking a charge. Slowly it dropped to 13.8 and slowly charged. While this was happening my #2 would not crank as the battery was still dead so I putted around heading for the inlet sure it would be charged by the time I got there.

It did; but the power pack was dead in one side from the over voltage.

Soooo...

New Power pack to replace one I killed. - $200.00
New Batteries to replace ones I knew were dying - $200

Quick trip out knowing I had bad equipment --- Priceless!!

Thanks Guys!!
