Hey guys, this is my first boat, a Dusky 1992, with the OceanRunner Motor. I bought it about 3 months ago and on the test drive it worked like a charm. After i took it home that i was cleaning it.. there goes problems.
After a few outs the motor wouldn't start, the switch would try to crank, but it felt like NO spark was happening, took it to the mechanic, and i got charged $250 just to change the sparkplugs, clean out the contacts of the thing where the sparkplugs are conected, replace a broken screw and replace the switch, cuz acording to him, it was grounded.
Well, i left happy and when i take the boat to the water it worked fine 2 times, then it died on me while a storm was aproaching in the middle of the night, and MAN i had a scare.
After that night, i drained the fuel tank, and cleaned the fuel filter, and replaced the primer.
Went out and and the motor worked fine at the dock, as soon as i start moving, it turned off and after 1 hour and almost 1 batery drained it turned on.
i called the mechanic while i was there and he told me to trim the motor and wait a bit in case it was drowned.. told me to kill electricity in case the powerpack was bad, and a few other things.
I just know it worked. I did what any newbie would do.. GO OUT TO FISH.. i did turn off and turned it on a few times before going to the reefs and it worked fine.
That night it was perfect.
Next time i go out which was last sunday. It turned on perfect at the ramp and i was iddle for a bit to get to a bay fishing spot and while running on NO wake zone, the engine DIES on me again. Then i see fuel on the water, and it wouldn't turn on for the life of it.. I checked the conections everything was fine as far as my eye could see..
Well, after like 15 minutes it turned on again and i arrived at my fishing spot.
Fished for like 2 hours and then .. BAM it doesn't want to turn on again.
I checked with a screwdriver inside one of the sparkplugs cables for sparks, and sadly there isn't ANY.
Have you guys any idea of what could be going on? I mean, i can't go out again with this uncertainty, because ima be stranded out there or im going to blow up the starter, because MAN i try a million times.
Also while i was trying to turn it on, i pushed in the switch to choke it and sometimes it would do like a short and would kill the breaker on the perko batery switch.
And to top it off after i got it to turn on, on sunday that im going back to the ramp. THE SWITCH wouldn't turn off the engine!!! i had to remove the sparkplugs cables in order for it to turn off.. IM SO FRuSTRATD!! its my first boat and i gotta say this.. i should've listened to those that sais. Bust Out Another Thousand. lol

Sounds like an issue with either the ignition switch or the kill circuit. I'm not sure on that particular motor but I think the kill wire is black with a yellow stripe. Check that wire from the ignition switch to the motor to make sure it isn't grounding out. This will ground your ignition system and prevent firing. Also, if it was skinned and has finally broken it would prevent the motor from shutting off.

The fuel on the water sounds like a by product of cranking it repeatedly with no fire - your'e just pushing fuel through the cylinders and out the exhaust.

Thanks for the info.. IDK what could've been the problem with the kill circuit because it was working before. I did unplug some cables that were going from the switch to the RMPs gauge and after that is when the alarm wouldn't shut off and it wasn't able to turn off the engine.

I do have a problem with alot of cables in the motor, some of them are loosing the rubber and some i've had to use electrical tape to isolate them from any grounding.

i was reading in the manual, and was wondering if the primer switch on the motor could cause the motor to drown if left on prime instead of run?
