I have the opportunity to purchase a 1995, 2 stroke, longshaft, manual start Johnson.
Very little hours, probably 20 hrs. Always was mixed 40:1 oil gas, stored indoors, used a little in the salt water but was flushed and washed after each use.
I got to use this motor as kicker on my 21 foot starcraft for a few weeks.
Now I have the option to buy this motor if I want, but what is a used outboard worth?
It is 16 years old, it just had a water pump and thermostat installed last year.
In excellent condition.

Re: 1995 25hp 2stroke, what is it worth

002.JPG001.JPG006.JPG005.JPGWell i buy and sell outboards for a living and i just bought a 1996 rebuilt johnson, the powerhead was completely redone and i sold it today for $1600 if that helps. The motor was a short shaft, manual start also. The motor looked like brand new. These little motors are priceless if there in great shape. My phone ringed off the hook at that price so i would say it may be worth $1300-$1600.It all depends were you live and how high a demand they are in your area.I live in fl so i make great money on every outboard i sell.I don't overprice them i just stay under what the marinas would charge and people buy from me instead. Some people here would think $1600 is way to high but in my area that is the going rate.A new 25hp 2stroke yamaha is close to $3500 so people would rather pay half or less of that for a great working motor. Here are some pics of the motor i just sold as i think if it's in this condition or better it may be worth a good dime.Try to negociate with him if you can,if you can get it for close to a grand your doing good.Go see him in person and offer him the money,he may take less then a grand who knows.Any more help just let me know. The one thing i do know is i have sold alot of different brands,i never had a johnson before as this was my first, but it sold faster then any other motor i have ever had.People must really like these johnson 25's.
