my 95 70hp evinrude seems to run around 160 degrees when i idle down the river to the lake about a mile trip
as soon as i open it up the temp drops to around 120 degrees
and if i idle around alittle bit back up to 160 degrees
and right know surface temp of the lake is about 65 degrees

now it runs great
last year i changed out the entire water pump housing and impeller because the kit came with all the updated cooling changes
and i changed the termostat too

last season i really didn't do much idling because i changed lakes where i fish now the idle time is much greater
so really never noticed the long term idle temperature

should i be alarmed by the idle temp or do you guys think its ok

thanks Bob

i wouldn't worry about it , as the motor idles the impeller turns at the idling rpm , when you throttle up the rpm increases the impeller turns faster & pumps more water to the motor , the volume increases more water enters the block that increase in pressure of water is then released through the poppet values , so you have more cold water coming into the motor & being released through the poppet valve thus the motor temp will drop slightly

As far as I know it's supposed to be this way. At higher rpms the increasing water pressure lifts up the thermostat off its seat thus providing additional cooling.
