Well, first shakedown run was relatively good. After really cleaning some clean looking carbs, she ran smooth and ran strong, need a little idle adjustment, so, only two glitches left to figure out.

Ran the boat for about 15 minutes, from idling in gear to WOT and everything in between, and just as I was idling back to the dock, the continuous overheat alarm started sounding off. Had good water flow coming out of the motor the whole time, so not sure why I was getting the alarm. Trailered up and and brought her home (15-20 minute drive), and fired it up again to flush the motor, it ran for about 30 seconds and the alarm came on again.

The other issue is that steering is REALLY tight. I had lubricated the hydraulic component at the motor as per recommendations, so I assume it's somewhere or all along in the cable between steering wheel and hydraulics.

Any and all insights are greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Dan

Figured out the steering (need to replace).

Still not sure about the overheat alarm.

Thanks

Check the plumbing to your tell tale outlet....it comes off the exhaust manifold water jacket cover...separate cooling loop from engine block. Your pop off valve is larger in diameter than the thermostat and is open as long as you are above 2500 rpms. Stat in control below that RPM. Replace your thermostat....my engine of that hp and series ran a 143F...pull the stat and look on the bottom of the pellet...opening temp stamped there. Double circle bulge, upper left corner of rear water jacket cover (spark plugs protrude through it) is the location.
